ABOUT US

PRESERVING THE PAST FOR THE FUTURE

We exist to preserve and share Kansas' rich heritage of firefighting through exhibits, photographs and the state's largest collection of firefighting paraphernalia. Around every corner you'll find well-preserved artifacts which bring the Kansas Firefighters museum to life before your very eyes.

COMMITMENT TO FIRE SAFETY

Among our ongoing events, we are proud to teach and promote fire safety and prevention. And not just to children. All ages are encouraged to join our efforts in fire safety education. Being respectful of fire will help ensure that our community stays for everyone.

HONORING THOSE WHO HAVE FALLEN

We are proud and honored to be custodians of the Kansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial Plaza. A tribute to all those who have fallen in the line of duty, their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

PRESERVING OUR HISTORY

In 2025, the Kansas Firefighters Museum received a grant from the Kansas Humanities Councils to preserve and organize the museum's (paper & photo) collection. Each item was examined and evaluated, with items of special interest copied, bound, and made available for general use.

Newspaper articles have been carefully removed from old newspapers and placed in protective covers. After processing was completed, all materials were indexed and placed in acid free containers.

All photographs have received special care and handling, along with professional training for museum volunteers.

Special thanks to the Wichita Fire Department for providing the work and storage space necessary for cataloging our collection.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

This is my new favorite museum in Wichita! The exhibits are all well put together, the area museums could learn a thing or two from this museum. They have tons of fire fighting memorabilia from the first firefighters in Wichita up to the present. The museum director basically gave us a private tour that kept my 2 and 4 year old boys enthralled. He let them try out the bells and some other artifacts and allowed them to sit on the refurbished fire engine.
EMILY CRANE
This little firehouse is PACKED full of history including 2 very rare, fully restored fire engines, photos, nozzles of every shape and size and tons of gadgets I haven't seen anywhere else! Every staff member was friendly, knowledgeable, and able to answer all of my questions. Being right downtown (just 1 block south Kellogg on Broadway) this is a MUST see attraction for Wichitans and visitors alike!
